Manufactured in huge numbers during WWII and beyond, The Sten was probably the most utilitarian but effective SMG of the period. Produced from pressed and welded steel plate with minimal machining the Sten was relatively cheap in terms of both materials and labour. Having said this, the MKV model was by far the best quality version of the Sten produced. The previous wire/T-stocks were replaced with a wooden stock, a pistol grip was added and the barrel was adapted for No4 type sights and to take the standard UK bayonets of the period. A second pistol grip was also added below the barrel jacket, but this was often removed (as in this case) with many users preferring to support the weapon via the magazine/housing. This M/78 (Elkington & Co Birmingham) example is in very good overall condition with some service wear to its chemical black finish. However, it isn't one of the many recently painted ones out there. 'MKV' marked (rather thand the later MK5 markings), clearly dated 1944 and with matching numbers to the receiver (mag well) and the stock which is quite unusual. Complete with one magazine, 5 rounds of inert 9mm parabellum, pigsticker bayonet and scabbard, and original sling. Post 1995 UK deactivation with moving cocking handle (under spring pressure), moving trigger, removable magazine, removable stock and the ability to partially field strip.
