SOLD. The Smith and Wesson Model 39 was developed for the US Army service pistol trials of 1949. It went on the market in 1955 and was the first of Smith & Wesson's first generation semi-automatic pistols. This example is a Model 39-2 and is the most common variant with a steel slide and alloy frame. It is in excellent condition with the vast majority of original finish intact (unusual – particularly on the alloy frame), good hardwood grips and comes complete with one magazine. Deactivated to the new EU specification with fully moving parts, working manual slide stop, working dry fire action and the ability to to remove the magazine. Existing collectors should note that the EU specification for the deactivation of semiautomatic pistols is very similar to the previous UK spec. It does require a slight adaption to the magazine/well that is actually better in some respects as it allows the slide to be cycled with inert rounds present the magazine.
